Overview
5-Amino-1MQ (5-Amino-1-Methylquinolinium) is a small-molecule selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), a cytosolic enzyme overexpressed in white adipose tissue and aged muscle.
Mechanism
By inhibiting NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ preserves S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) and nicotinamide pools, indirectly supporting NAD+ availability and methylation reactions. Rodent models of diet-induced obesity and aged muscle stem-cell function report measurable phenotypic changes.
Notes for the lab
5-Amino-1MQ is water-soluble. Most published rodent protocols dose orally by body weight; reconstituted material is kept refrigerated and used within the timeframe defined by the original protocol.
