Overview
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) derived from the natural tetrapeptide tuftsin with a stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro tail.
Mechanism
Animal research describes modulation of GABA receptor expression, changes in BDNF and enkephalin levels, and effects on cytokine balance suggestive of immunomodulatory activity. These pathways underpin its use as a reference compound in anxiety and stress-adaptation studies.
Notes for the lab
Selank is water-soluble. Most published rodent and intranasal pharmacology studies use small doses; refer to those protocols for body-weight scaling rather than extrapolating from human-equivalent doses.
