Pinealon: a tripeptide studied in neuronal stress models

A short Glu-Asp-Arg sequence with reported antioxidant and neuroprotective activity in vitro.

Overview

Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide (Glu-Asp-Arg) developed in the same Khavinson-school research lineage as epithalon and other 'short peptide bioregulators.'

Mechanism

Reported activity centers on antioxidant signaling, reduction of caspase-3 in cortical neuron cultures, and modulation of stress-response gene expression. The peptide is small enough to penetrate cell nuclei in published in-vitro models, which is the basis of its proposed gene-regulatory effects.

Notes for the lab

Reconstitute in bacteriostatic water; pinealon is freely water-soluble. Most data come from cell-culture work and rat models — design comparison studies with appropriate vehicle and positive controls.
